Büro BDP / Broken Dimanche Press

Büro BDP sees itself as fulfilling a vital role in Berlin’s literary scene, providing a physical space that not only hosts book presentations, readings, and workshops, but also provides a space explicitly dedicated to fostering contact between contemporary art practice and literature. With the project space of Broken Dimanche Press, a publisher that identifies as European and is committed to the expansion of the field of literature and art and the concrete book object, Büro BDP is in the privileged and unique position of bringing together people from different artistic and social backgrounds.

The unique dynamism of upcoming artists engaging with the world of literature, writers expanding their oeuvre beyond the book object, but above all presenting the results of such practices in a spatial gallery context are central aspects of the work that Büro BDP is trying to do. Büro BDP opened its doors for the first time as a project space for Broken Dimanche Press in the winter of 2011 and soon became a showplace for textual art, visual poetry, performances and workshops. In the beginning, the office was mainly located at Emserstraße 43 in Neukölln, in the course of event series then moved to numerous locations across Berlin as and in various European cities. For some time now, Büro BDP has been located in the gallery spaces of Mareschstraße 1, Neukölln. It is co-curated by Ida Bencke, a curator and academic originally from Copenhagen, and John Holten, a writer and curator originally from Dublin, Ireland, both of whom have lived for almost 10 years in Berlin.
