me Collectors Room

me Collectors Room is an exhibition space for private art collections in Berlin-Mitte. The institution is entered through a café with an atrium with a high ceiling, flooded with light. The design and furnishings attest to the collector’s passion for the rare, exquisite, and special. Since its opening in 2010, on a regular basis private collectors from around the world have been invited to present highlights from their collections, otherwise not accessible to the public. In addition, curated insights are provided into the Olbricht Collection, one of the most outstanding international private art collections.

A very special highlight of the institution is the permanently installed Wunderkammer Olbricht, a private collection with over 300 precious curiosities from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, one of the most important of its kind around the world. Besides art, the collection also includes rare stamps, art nouveau objects, and toys.

me Collectors Room, operated by Stiftung Olbricht, wants to inspire people and awaken interest among the public in art. “me”, moving energy, is thus the creed of the institution. It is a private space, a world of experience that opens for collectors, curators, and for all those on discovery in the broad field of art. An extensive auxiliary programme with conversations with artists and experts, concerts, readings, and culinary evenings accompanies all exhibitions.

By bringing together old art in the cabinet of curiosities with young art in the current exhibitions and by adding music and culinary pleasures to the mix, all the senses are addressed, making new insights and perspectives possible.

A special highlight is the programme for children, which seeks to anchor art in the everyday life of children and young people in a playful way with various tours and workshops. Beside sensual experience, this playfully fosters the development of knowledge, the expansion of cultural competence, and above all promotes creativity and imagination.
