Bani Abidi presents her work bursting of subtle humor and poetry at Gropius Bau. Known for her distinctive approach to film making, Abidi is showing her first major solo exhibition in Berlin. Her films, drawings, photos and installations tackle political issues and depict scenes from Karachi, her birthplace, and other sites of Pakistan and the German capital. They are wise observations on life with often fictional elements. Comic-absurd moments and black humor run the artist's work, who lives and works in both Berlin-Rixdorf and Karachi. THEY DIED LAUGHING tells "stories of ambitious dreams and failure, dealing with the relationship between state power, patriotism, and megalomania." (Gropius Bau) A remarkable show, which also runs as part of the Berlin Art Week 2019.
