"Thank You for Sharing"

Using various artistic positions, artburst berlin’s exhibition Thanks You for Sharing explores the very timely subject of who controls our personal data, dealing both with the aspect of state surveillance and the responsibility of each individual in how they use and share their own data. We are all quite aware of the extent to which state control insinuates itself into our private lives. But the use of our endless trails of data by private companies is something we often accept with a mere shrug. The works of these artists focus on this problem and ask whether the only alternative today is digital abstinence.

artburst berlin

artburst berlin is a new art and cultural volunteer group that promotes creative talents and links art to Berlin city life. As a team of young art historians, we organize exhibitions and cultural events beyond the art market but close to the public. Our focus is placed on current issues that touch and move people in their everyday lives. Our goal is to offer an alternative platform for artistic positions across a broad spectrum of disciplines, including painting, sculpture, photography, video art and performances, music, dance, and literature.

artburst berlin is not linked to any one institution. In this way, we create free spaces for the urban zeitgeist in collaboration with project spaces and artists’ spaces. Each of our cultural events has its own individual character, developed based on changing locations and contents. Whether it’s Weißensee, Moabit, or Neukölln, the variety of the neighborhoods in question is our co-curator. As art nomads, we settle in these various places and integrate the stories and people on site into our work. Beside promoting artists, we see communicating with the public as one of our main tasks. Here, we seek to distance ourselves from the image of the art world that is often considered unapproachable and elitist, and hope to break down any reservations the public might have with engaging with the art world and the other way around. Having fun in experiencing contemporary art and an exchange between artists, curators, and visitors at eye level is one of our most important goals.
