The heart of the city, not only in geographical terms, Mitte hosts the highest density of galleries and most of our partner institutions and project spaces. Use the opportunity to have a relaxed walk around — there’s a lot to discover!

Kiez-Tour #1 offers a good mixture of project spaces and institutions. The institutions located in Mitte n.b.k. and me Collectors Room open their exhibitions on Wednesday. At n.b.k., there are three exhibitions opening, Halil Altındere with Space Refugee, Natascha Sadr with Haghighian oncomickey-
catch and Gerwald Rockenschaub with 751C064/045 on the façade. me Collectors Room presents the group show My Abstract World, while Kunst Werke located just next door is one of the five sites that are being played by the Berlin Biennale. Right near by, the two project spaces A-TRANS und Kunsthaus Kule open on Tues. or offer live programmes.

Kiez-Tour #2 focuses on the institutions and Biennale locations in Berlin Art Week. With Akademie der Künste at Pariser Platz and ESMIT European School of Management and Technology, two biennale locations will be offering a special programme on this Wednesday. The exhibition Im Über All by the artist Yvonne Roeb opens at Schering Stiftung on Wednesday, while Schinkel Pavillon presents the second part of the individual exhibition of Goshka Macuga. With COMMON AFFAIRS , Deutsche Bank KunstHalle presents contemporary art from Poland in cooperation with Polnish Institute Berlin, taking the renowned VIEWS Award as a point of departure—Poland’s most important award for
contemporary art.

Kiez-Tour Kreuzberg #1

 

It’s not Art Week without Kreuzberg. Famous for its long nights, this is one of the city’s most exciting neighbourhoods and leaves no culinary desires unanswered.

Kiez-Tour #1 offers the most variety in light of the range of locations and events. Beside the art fair abc art berlin contemporary, which opens its doors on Thursday, Feuerle Collection is located as a site of the Biennale and a private collection in the immediate proximity. HAU 1 and 2, which enrich this year’s
programme with theatre and performance, are quickly reached. Somewhat to the north is Belrinische Galeire, which this year presents Gasag Kunstpreis. The diverse tour is rounded out with the two project spaces Sign, Ciat, and Lettrétage E.V. which on Sunday present a special programme for Art Week.

It’s not Art Week without Kreuzberg. Famous for its long nights, this is one of the city’s most exciting neighbourhoods and leaves no culinary desires unanswered.

Kiez-Tour #2 offers a mixture of project spaces, art institutions, and art fairs. Messe. This year, the art fair Positions Berlin at Postbahnhof am Ostbahnhof just over the Spree in Friedrichshain opens its doors on Thursday. Group Global 3000 E.V. and Tacho, winners of this year’s project space awards, Projektraumpreisträger, open already with exhibitions for Art Week. nGbK neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst presents in its spaces in Kreuzberg »Ene meine Muh und welche Stadt willst du?« and opens on Sunday »Mitte in der Pampa, Kunst im Untergrund 2016/2017« at the subway station Cottbusser Platz (U5) in Berlin-Marzahn.

Kiez-Tour Prenzlauer Berg

 

It is impossible to ignore neighbourhood: Prenzlauer Berg has a reputation throughout Germany and beyond. Four project spaces with very different programs can been explored by foot or by bike.

For Berlin Art Week, LAGE EGAL will become TABS 3, a temporary artist’s bookshop that invites to browse, discover, and purchase artist books. The project space Errant Bodies, founded in 2013, is a working group of artists, researchers, and writers dedicated to experimental sound works. The ausland / projekt archiv
e. V. shows views of the 10-day artistic residence Queeries Into Collective Feminism and invites to participate in a mysterious experiment. At super bien! Gewächshaus für zeitgenössische Kunst, inscribed glass plates by Swiss artist Beat Brogle will be view 24 hours each day.

Kiez-Tour Neukölln

 

In Neukölln, there is so much going on that it’s impossible to keep up: if one location closes, three new ones sprout up. It’s no surprise that the entire world seems to gather around city events as close as possible.

Three project spaces can be visited at Berlin Art Week. At Büro BDP, the exhibition and novel project And When The Panic Rises You Shall Have This City’s Sympathy by John Holen will be presented. At Apartment Project e.V., the exhibition footnotes looks at various praxis-formats of Apartment-Project with a collection of key videos, sounds, and documentaries. At Kunstverein Neukölln, the exhibition Konditionalgefüge will show three contemporary positions that engage realistically and quite precisely with forms of possibility of space and time.

Kiez-Tour Wedding

 

Wedding is considered the »wild child« among the Berlin districts, and can best be explored on foot or by bike, for there is hardly a corner of Berlin that is as colourful and culturally diverse. Three exciting project spaces right near Gesundbrunnen are already worth a visit.

At Kulturpalast Wedding, you can visit the exhibition Wave If You Are Real, in which four artists Fatima Njai, Mark Met, Nora Below and Silke Thoss show interdisciplinary positions on the subjects of identity change, role play, authenticity, and the fake. At project space grüntaler9—a space towards the performative, Willem Wilhemus will undertake a »performative purge« of the space for five days, feeling and changing the space through his performances. The French film Role Plays is all about »scriptings«. In the essayistic documentary, the system of humanitarian aid in the neo-liberal period is questioned from the point of view of two young French artists.
