HANS HAACKE | WE (ALL) ARE THE PEOPLE

A special artistic intervention will be featured this year in Berlin’s urban setting. On numerous façades of exhibition institutions, Hans Haacke’s work ›Wir (alle) sind das Volk‹ / ›We (all) are the people‹ will be shown. These posters, which were first shown on façades and public transport stops in Kassel and Athens, take up the slogan of East German demonstrators from 1989/1990 with a slight alteration to emphasize solidarity with migrants and refugees. Since then, the work has been displayed around the world by art museums and art schools, in this way asserting their open-mindedness and commitment to cultural diversity. In Berlin, a new edition of the work has been initiated by Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) and realized together with partners of Berlin Art Week. The banners, flags, and posters will be shown at institutions such as: Akademie der Künste, Gropius Bau, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Hamburger Bahnhof—Museum für Gegenwart—Berlin, Kindl—Centre for Contemporary Art, Savvy Contemporary, and at Volksbühne Berlin.
