Kirchner · Richter · Burgert

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Gerhard Richter and Jonas Burgert: me Collectors Room Berlin creates dedicated spaces for three important German artists of three generations. The exhibition with works from the Olbricht Collection will open on the occasion of Berlin Art Week on 11 SEP.

Since his early youth, Thomas Olbricht has explored the graphic art works created by German Expressionists. When it comes to the Brücke artists, his focus has been on Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s Berlin street scenes, executed in fast strokes. These works contrast with the relaxed portraits and nudes from Kirchner’s time in Dresden.

As one of the best-known contemporary artists from Germany, Gerhard Richter is a further pillar of the Olbricht Collection, which, worldwide, is the only collection to have brought together works from all of the artist’s editions. Viewers’ attention is drawn to Richter’s abstract tapestries and his unique editioned works as well as to one of the central subjects in his oeuvre: people.

In addition to established positions, Thomas Olbricht continues to be enthusiastic about young art. Fifteen years ago he happened upon the mysterious scenes populated by enigmatic figures, the work of Berlin artist Jonas Burgert, whose career he has since supported as a collector. Burgert’s monumental paintings and sculptures have become fundamental to the collection.
